"I really hear Portnoy trying so so so hard to be like Peart"
i feel like as much as portnoy talks about being inspired by peart, i don't really hear it in his playing very much (besides the giant drum set and his use of auxiliary percussion). he's way more bonham / bruford to me
also hilarious how hugh syme did mostly great artwork for the entirety of rush's career while basically doing all dogshit for dt lmao

Can't express how much I dislike Hugh Syme's work, also not convinced it was particularly great in Rush's case to begin with lol but it's still better than the last decade and a half of DT covers

I can give it to you that they don't have any god awful album covers thankfully, but they're maybe just iconic at best. I quite like the artwork on Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Grace Under Pressure at least

I honestly need to listen to Rush at some point. Maybe when that drive for new music picks back up in me and life also settles down from being so hectic, I finish off the couple of discographies I was working on and go to them next.

You can start at Moving Pictures and work your way backwards.

All Rush eras have good stuff in them. 90s perhaps less so but still lots of bangers in there.
I personally think 80's Rush is super underrated.

80’s is my favorite

I haven't invested much time in post-Signals Rush, so much music out there, but I'll do that bit by bit.

Signals isn't even one of my favorite 80s Rush albums tbh. Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure, and Power Windows are all superior imo
Still has a lot of jams in its own right though

80s Rush is my favorite era of theirs stylistically

80s Rush is stacked esp in the latter half--plus, it has their best album (GUP).

Even Hold Your Fire has many bangers. Turn the Page and Lock and Key? Come on now. Hell I even like Time Stands Still even with how cheesy it is.

Hold Your Fire is their most underrated album. Force Ten is another banger off that one, the synth breakdown bridge and the brief drum solo at the end is peak
