Very Ape and Territorial Pissings really aren't that much alike outside of the fact that they are both signature Nirvana songs. Comparing it to Tourette's would be more apt

I don't find it that weird that they had an anti-jock/masculine song on each record. Cobain was totally against any form of male aggression.

Slightly off topic, I was really surprised to learn yesterday that Billy Corgan is a massive sports fan, he didn't seem like the type. I would have assumed him to be quite similar to Kurt in that regard.

i wouldn't really call In Bloom "anti-masculinity"... seems more about how everything's growing and changing all the time. hard to be anti-nature

Well the chorus is definitely about those in the mainstream who didn't get the band's 'message'.

true, and magnified, it'd be about anyone pretending to understand any message, when the whole point of the message is to be understood

Haha @ Zak: Yeah Nirvana are one of my favourite bands of all time, but I don't connect with Cobain on any emotional level. The man had problems beyond most of us.

They are me fave. Nothing has come close to the feeling I had when I first heard them back when it started. Life changing doesn't begin to describe it.

The band spoke volumes to an impressionable teen.

That was basically the same for me in regards to Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam are definitely up there as well. During me grunge days them two bands were constantly changing as favourite and favourite album always changing between this, ten and Siamese Dream.

Great days!

I'm living those days right now, ahah. I'll tell you, growing up to become an adult, finally starting to discover my own taste in music for the past couple of years, starting to realize exactly what I want to do for my life, discovering all the Seattle bands and the grunge movement has been one of the most exciting and defining journeys of my short life.

Ten, In Utero, Dirt and Siamese Dream are all gold and possibly my favorites, Mad Season's Above and Screaming Trees' Dust coming real close. You're an Alice in Chains fan, Zak?

My brother had the Rooster single on import, said I should listen to it and me face melted then I borrowed/nicked Dirt from my best mate. Yeah they were great. Bought Jar of Flies the day it came out and to this day 'Don't Follow' is one of my greatest songs of all time.

As a band they didn't touch PJ or Nirvana though.

Loved STP as well.

The experience of hearing Dirt for the first time on a rainy Friday afternoon in late February, just after having witnessed one of the worst days I'd ever had in school, remains one of the listening experiences that had the most immediacy and impact on me so far. Jar Of Flies' haunting atmosphere gets me every time, and I can't tell you how many times I've already watched the classic MTV Unplugged performance, it almost brings me to tears sometimes.

As a band, I've always given Alice In Chains a slight edge over Nirvana, but they are both "up there" for me. From STP, Purple and Core were excellent from what I recall, "Sex Type Thing" still played a lot on the radios here until recently. Don't know if I ever bothered to check any more albums of theirs, I should probably change that. I remember when Velvet Revolver came around there was a lot of hype, but it was all over nothing. Both albums they put out had decent tunes and a couple of great ones, but a lot of clunkers as well.

What about Screaming Trees, man? You dug?
