I love this thread, it’s like a reassuring never-ending hug of familiarity. New users come, question why anyone likes it, then we all reminisce and share similar stories of how ‘difficult’ a listen it once was.
The cycle continues. Hopefully it helps the new guys persevere.

"I'd argue 70% of high ratings for this are those that kept listening because they were told this is good"
yup, one of the most rewarding records out there

As a business major, I really admire Bannon's hussle out here. Dude has Converge, Deathwish, has produced and done artwork for dozens upon dozens of bands (plenty of which being bigger than Converge)... not to mention all his other side projects and business ventures.
For a guy whose mostly known for fronting a band that 99% of the population would deem un-listenable, I'd imagine he's done really well for himself the past 20-30 years.

Kurt's arguably done even better with his production bidness.

Yeah dude these guys are crazy prolific... must be pretty cool to be raking in royalties every month for shit you don't even remember doing.

And nothing he’s done has ever seemed forced. I don’t really care for Wear Your Wounds but it’s obvious it’s something he’s passionate about.
Mad respect to Jake, and the rest of the band really. Just an insanely talented group of guys.

Only heard Axe to Fall from these guys. This is, uh... well, a little different sounding

oh buddy
I’m honestly jealous. I know I’m far from the only one that’s like this, but I hated these guys the first time I heard them. Now they’re probably my favorite band.
And Axe to Fall is fucking amazing, but it still doesn’t have anything on this imo

I think I got Axe to Fall at a used cd store a while back (my rating showed up in 2017 according to sput). I don't remember disliking it the first time I heard it. I still have the copy of it so I must have liked it enough not to get rid of it, which is saying something
I just never dug deeper into the band for whatever reason

It’s one of their more accessible records for sure. If you liked that you’ll probably like All We Love too.
The band has a very distinct sound but their albums are all still very unique.

I will check some more of their stuff out, for sure. I am into this. Don't know if I will get to 5 status, but you never know
Hot damn, the closer is a goodun, tho

remember that 2011-or-so nymag article about like "how MUCH MONEY does the band GRIZZLY BEAR make". ok maybe nobody reads nymag but I just thought itd be funny to do a deep dive into the ledgers of the members of converge to see what's what

Like think of any metalcore/post-hardcore sput darling... there's a solid chance they are/were signed to Jacob's label, have been produced by Kurt, and/or have their artwork and merch being done by Jacob and Deathwish. They seem to have their hands in just about everything

if any band is gonna double dip in the great salsa bowl of metalcore creativity im really glad its these boys

Kurt’s production style has started to grate on me a bit. Not because it’s bad but because the current heavy sphere is over saturated with it.

I mean, yeah, their accolades are definitely undeniable. They’ve done a lot to contribute to the global hardcore and metal scenes, on top of releasing their own fantastic music.

it might be a particular case with me--I have a pretty blinkered view of metal music and tend to attach to favorites quickly: whenever I listen to other metalcore type stuff, I'm always like, "Why isn't this more like converge?" haha
