The vocals irritate me more than the other shitty bands mentioned. It seems to me that people are really nostalgic for this in general, I just never thought it was in any way competent so I have no nostalgia for it and find it annoying. i don't like Hybrid Theory that much either and people get upset about that as well. nu-metal of any kind is just not my thing, I usually like any other kind of metal more.

Part of this is probably nostalgia for me but I do think soad was a good band. Nobody sounds like them and I think they write solid riffs and their drummer is solid as fuck and mixes a lot of different styles into his playing

Hybrid Theory is actually a lot better in retrospect than I thought it was. I never listened to Linkin Park when I was younger, but I finally heard Hybrid Theory over the last few years and was pretty surprised at how much I enjoyed it



But tbh, that's the same for most of the nu-metal classics for me. I was always under the impression that all nu-metal was terrible and for posers when I was in highschool, but the good stuff in the genre was so much better than I ever thought it would be

Also Hybrid Theory is just really well constructed pop music with metal crunch on top. Shinoda is passable to decent but it was Chester’s performance that made that album so good, what an incredible talent that man had.

I do think soad is a little more timeless than most of the other nu metal. Probably the lack of bad rapping and angst centered lyrics. And also maybe that the riffs aren't just all drop d power chords. Actually, introduced this to a buddy of mine who listens to almost nothing but rap and Latin music and he loves it now lol
