I can imagine

I can imagine it not living up to one's expectations of Mastodon or "metal"
But that raises the more important question: why have expectations for anything in the first place?

I haven’t listened to this in full but goddamn man, from what I’ve heard these guys dropped off a cliff after Crack the Skye
I used to just think I didn’t like this band, but no they got mid as fuck and I wasn’t listening to the right albums
|
| |
It’s insane to me this is rocking an avg anything close to Crack the Skye
|
| |
This is probably a little higher than it should be but mainly crack the skye is lower than it should be

Good album, but definitely bloated with some filler. All in all, a respectable but disappointing effort. A double Mastodon record? Sounded like no brainer. And though I may be in the minority, I thought EoS was mid-upper tier Mastodon.
So to follow-up with this…yeah. But still has some killer tracks. Like so many double albums before it, something like Stadium Arcadium comes first to mind, there’s one phenomenal album here. But it’s saddled by about half an album material worth of filler.
The Fragile and Mellon Collie come to mind as two that got it right.
Foo fighters in your honor comes to mind as most unnecessary.
