That doesn't sound like hyperbole, their self titled was huge - I mean I never jammed it before this year, but I remember everyone in that scene talked about it a lot

What does the popularity of a band prior to the album release have to do with the quality of said album?
|
| |
apparently people who really enjoy this album should be kissing the feet and thanking the almighty Sput gods that this placed 2nd on the staff list because the band was "unheard" of before this release
at least this is what Storm's logic suggests

Yeah, this band is not at all unknown, but they're at their best form right now.

“No one has even heard of this band. For it to be second place and people to complain about that is beyond reasoning.”
Hopesfall will never be album of the year. I’m sorry bro
|
| |
This band was already "popular" before this. Fucking album cover of s/t was everywhere in lists of 2010s noise rock.

Also Storm's comment makes no sense tbh
we're judging albums, not discographies, why should an artist's notoriety prior to an album affect an the perception of the quality in regards to an album?
For a comparison Kendrick Lamar was relatively unknown prior to Good Kid M.A.A.D City, but that album won "album of the year" awards from BBC, Complex, Fact, New York Magazine and Pitchfork. Is that somehow because everyone was already somehow hyper-aware of his debut Section.80 and pretending to not know about it as some grand conspiracy? Or is it simply that the album was good enough to be given AOTY awards from those publications?

Sputnik has decided guys, it was decided that Kasey is better & this is a mere Swans-lite, ‘noise rock for the masses’ rip-off.
|

Who the hell is Kasey?

Porn stars could be an authority on a lot of stuff but idk about music. Am kinda curious as to what Proxy Paige and Annette Schwartz listen to though.
@Demon: Swans-lite?? lmao entirely unfair, though there is a good amount of Swans in here.
