I listened to ot thrice, thou never in a completely focussed situation, and I gotta say that its so extremely dense that I didnt really get into it yet... but not very surprisingly it sounds highly promising

I was upset they didn't play chasm of fire but
I saw em in Saint vitus a few nights ago and they were immaculate. guitar sound was iffy at times but aside from that perfect. last two songs were end the hope and dead oceans.

they did have live guitarist prior to Destroyers era and it sounded great. but yea it's not hard to set up amps apart for those occasions

They sounded perfectly full as a 3 piece. Amazingly so, in fact. I saw them the same night as Starless and they were indeed immaculate. Best songs were Cold Becoming and Dead Oceans although that does slightly reflect my bias towards Destroyers.

I think I need to listen to nothing but this until this album completely clicks. This will be like my 3rd listen...
Took a few for Gorguts' Obscura and the new Deathspell so I'm just hoping this works for me lol

If Nostalgia is the hit on Obscura, what song takes that place here?

I'd say Yield to Naught is the first to click.

Chasm of Fire 100%

dunno, i find all their releases engaging from start to finish (fracture to a lesser degree). i have never picked out tracks much, and if i had to pick out particularly staggering tracks from this i would wind up naming half the record

They are all so densely heavy
But Chasm of Fire still manages to stand out the most

I've never heard a riff like that tapping stuff in the second half. in this context it's like boiling magma under unimaginable pressure.

Exactly what I was thinking. The imagery these guys produce in their music is insane, and it is best shown on here on Chasm

honestly, people aren't wrong when they say everything Ulcerate does sounds similar. if you threw a random Ulcerate song at me, 9 out of 10 times it would take me a minute to identify it. but there are some moments like on Chasm, the rising section of Drown Within, that riff in Cold Becoming, or the outro of Destroyers that are instantly recognizable.

True. I think EiF is so good because it really gave them a chance to experiment with said imagery and turned out great

The thing is that while it's not quite clicking yet there are sections that I remember from the album that I keep wanting to come back to. It's definitely good so far.
I think 'Earthly Love' from Obscura is what opened up the record to me

yeah pretty much. i find myself being wrapped up by the sound and atmosphere as opposed to the actual songs if that makes sense.
