I didn’t personally insult anyone & I don’t go around saying ‘newpeth sucks’ in every thread, not actually sure who you’re referencing Rodrigo.

New Opeth is essentially Jethro Tull and Goblin worship for people who don't know better.

It's just boring even when not comparing it to old opeth.

By most progressive rock and metal standards, I'd much rather listen to something other than the last three albums they've put out.

It's also more boring than all of those bands. It's just bland 70s prog rip off so I don't really see it as some artistic growth like some others do.

Opeth might be my favorite band of all time, but I can't remember how a single song on this record goes.

Yeah, the biggest flaw of that "yeah man let the band change and do what they want to" argument is that not every change is automatically an artistic development, and this is one of the cases where it isn't. They lost so much more than what they gained, and that doesn't have anything to do with the change in sound and much more with the change in composing methods. I get the feeling Mike just tends to throw everything together that he thinks sounds cool these days.

Totally, which is crazy considering how clearly methodical albums like MAYH and Still Life were.

Haven't jammed this for a while. Maybe I'll bump down my rating (sorry Mayhem)

The guitar riffs in Era sound so dumb to me.

Ok, but they've also incorporated blues, jazz, and death metal into something that was their own sound. I think you're purposefully missing the point.

there's been blues, jazz, and folk on the last couple records too. really the only thing that's been missing has been the dm.
