First three on FTM, Tetragrammaton, Take the Veil, Televators, Vermicide and Day of the Baphomets are where this band is at. Dunno what else I'd put in my TMV playlist

Cedric and his family have a whole lot of shit going down between them and the Church of Scientology as well. They allegedly poisoned and killed two of his dogs. Sad times.

Yeah I’ve been following that pretty closely. Normally I’d be like “sounds like some paranoid shit” but the CoS has been known to do things exactly like that in the past

Sorta agree about the rather pretentious lyrics, but completely fail to see what’s supposed to be wrong with damn near perfect tracks like “Intertiatic ESP”, “Roulette Dares” or “This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed”.

I like everything they did after this, but it just hits the hardest for me. I never clicked with Francis and everything that followed. I like them all but this is the only one I come back to.

I fucking love this band to the moon and beyond because they actually laid themselves out warts and all on EVERY album they put out. Shitty songs, mid tier songs, good songs, god-like songs - but they managed to really compartmentalize the atmosphere behind every record better than any other band I've ever listened to. Mars Volta, for better or for worse, is the pinnacle concept record band.
I always was battling what is the best Mars Volta record, and while I still think Frances takes the cake due to it's undeniable virtuosity and style, Deloused exists as outsider art to the utmost degree because no other record sounds like this. I would be so proud to have been any member/engineer/etc. on this record because of it.

Did I ever rate this? This was the only MV album I ever liked. Everything else was pretty bad IMO. I remember a buddy of mine coming over and putting on one of their newer albums for my brother and I. I think it was Amputechture. There was this song with the most non-sensical guitar wank in it. Granted my brother and I were high AF when we were listening to it, we still turned to each other, and then to my friend and told him the album was garbage. We both loved this album, too. So it was disappointing to hear this band get worse and worse over time.
A 3.5? Hmmm - I think that's fair. If you asked me my rating 10 years ago it probably would have been 4.5.
