"How can anyone not like hip hop, I don't understand it"

It's not that I don't 'like' it per se, I'm just not very knowledgeable about it and so I've probably only heard a tiny fraction of the decent artists in the genre

its probably the genre that best allows the artist to storytell and reflect their environment

one reason why hip-hop is so appealing to me is that it's very distinct compared to other modern popular forms of music. the various subgenres of rock, and even the relationship between the pop and rock metagenres are much closer in sound, styles, lyrical quality/approaches, musical techniques, etc. when compared to one another, than when hip-hop is compared to either of the two.

basically hip-hop is on a completely different ballpark than dominant rock and pop metagenres (i guess singer/songwriter and folk are as well; which is also a great part of their appeal to me).

Yeah singer-songwriter folk/country does that better than anything.

This is in no way primarily a jazz album lol

There is jazz influence on some tracks, true, but that doesn't make this any more than a rap album with jazz influence
