Most of the negative reviews of this album consist of making fun of Kendrick fans, and proceeding to throw out random words like 'hipster' or 'pretentious' or 'overrated' and other vague statements. Some of them don't even talk about the actual music lol.

This and MKMAADC both were a couple of the best first listens I've ever had with any album in general, but this album has the edge.

I've heard the biggest turnoff for some people is the jazz production. Those same people LOVED gkmc for it's catchy hooks and not for much else. So when the hooks got slightly less catchy, and lyrical substance was booted up, they couldn't take change.

GKMC content was kinda unoriginal and the story was pretty straightforward and simple, but seriously catchy and very accessible. This is kinda opposite. But this is much better, thank god he didn't do GKMC 2.
