"Heritage is an awesome tribute to '70s prog, but it is a bit one note in that respect, I guess. Pale Communion had a bit more unique songwriting and incorporated some other elements"

Complete opposite for me. Heritage definitely had the more unique song writing and was far more adventurous than PC which was safe as fuck in comparison with more obvious 70's prog worship.

I've been hoping that Sorceress is a return to the more interesting direction of Heritage but with each song I here I'm feeling less and less confident that that will be the case.

Really like the new single tbh.

Catchy chorus, lovely acoustic work coupled with some swee harp segments and a killer groovy outro.

It almost feels pointless to type "agreed", I don't see how it could even be debated.

Anyway I really like the third single, and I never had real problems with the t/t. Mildly hyped honestly

I don't get that at all, especially with the last three tracks on Pale Communion, but to each his own. I mean, "River" starts out like an Allman Bros. song and then goes like full on psych jam at the end, which I think is pretty cool.

Heritage, I can literally go in and say this sounds like King Crimson, this sounds like Jethro Tull, etc.

That's how I feel about PC and the tracks I'm hearing from the new one. With Heritage bar 2 or 3 particular moments (not even whole songs) the album really doesn't sound like any particular prog band. It's even become more apparent in interviews with Mikael when talking about PC and Sorceress where he says I wanted this song to sound like a song by [insert band from the 70's here]. I didn't get that with Heritage.

I'm referring to parts of songs from Heritage, with the exception of "Slither" which is more or less a Mashup of bands Dio was in. The only song on Pale Communion that sounds like one specific band is "Goblin," which, yeah, Mikael said himself was the point.

Like, take "Strange Brew" from the new record: It's named after a Cream song and there's one part that intentionally sounds like a bit like Cream, but the rest of the song is pretty unique sounding.

Apart from Will O' The Wisp which is completely Jethro Tull, I can't say I find another band in the record. In PC, you forget Faith In Others, which is very similar to Starless by KC. Also, the sound of the keyboards in Eternal Rains sounds like Atomic Rooster, but this one is a bit nitpicking.

I feel with Heritage the band had a much clearer view in mind. It has (mostly) a coherent mysterious atmosphere that is constantly supported by the loose jazzy playing. See the Nepenthe / Haxprocess / Famine trilogy as an example which is my favorite part of the album, with the two bonus tracks coming second.

In a sense, the vivid images sorrounding the new album (artwork, videos...) give me hope for a similar consistency of ideas. Considering that The Wilde Flowers comes right after the t/t, I may not be wrong

I think there's some stuff Mike ripped from himself on Sorceress, including stuff from Storm Corrosion, but I could say that about most of their albums.

The songs are not similar in a way of sound, but in a way of expression. Atmosphere is there and boy, oh boy, are there good and interesting solos.

Lyrically, there's a unifying theme to the album, but musically, the songs are all really different from one another.

After listening to The Wilde Flowers a few times I had the feeling that I'm going to dig Sorceress a lot. I thought it was due to the video (I'm a sucker for those things) but the song has been engraved in my brain ever since so it must be doing something good
