That’s what I’m getting at Doof - the caveat being that the lack of emotion makes it hard for me to connect with it.

I wouldn't say there's a lack of emotion here... I mean, 'emotion' is pretty broad. There's pensiveness, anger, sadness, joy, admiration. Maybe these just don't come across to you? That said, I don't personally need albums to be super emotive to have a good time listening to them. This is predominantly fun, to me.

Pixies aren't emotional for me, they rock out, transmit a raw sexual thing a lot of the time, and have very untraditional lyrics for a rock band. Plus they have the whole Hispanic thing. They cool. But floods of tears and butterflies in muh tummy? Nah.
Agreed. Pixies make me want a beer and a topless woman.

Who's arguing that they're emotional? lol they're fun

Well, first I said they weren’t emotional, hence why I feel this wouldn’t become a personal classic for me, but then people started arguing that it was emotional.

Regardless of emotion, can't you just enjoy it on its merits? 5s needn't be reserved for super emotional albums

Idk. It seems the very manic side of manic depression to me tbh. It's an important part of the equation, you know? And it's an e m o t i o n on its own, you know?

What is the nature of emotions?
Is boredom an emotion?
Are emotions a subjective thing? Or can we, with enough analysis of this album, arrive at a point where we agree on the emotional level of the music? This seems to be the idea here.

Same lol.
Revisiting this, I still love it. I feel like "dead", "la la love you", and "crackity jones" are kind of filler tho. I love the batshit insane moments on here, like the bridge in "i bleed" and the ending of "tame".

dead is awesome and crackity jones is pure genius to me, the riffs are too good and the insanity of the vocals is through the roof

I just like to see how much I can trigger people everytime I check out classics, y’all make it too easy
Jk though, this is pretty great, I am eating my words from before. This is an excellent rock album and even if I don’t think it doesn’t become a personal classic I definitely should have heard it a long time ago.
