Never got into WS, probably because Ghost Reveries was up to a high standard, anything after has been a bit of a

comedown. The softer songs on Watershed are most interesting to me for some reason.

Heritage was just average for me but I respect its influences

Loving the direction in which the new songs are going though

There's not that much between GR and Watershed for me, although the former is definitely more consistent and flows better. This is superior and infinitely more interesting than both.

i actually slightly prefer WS to GR. They're both 4 but because Watershed is pretty different to most things they've done up to that point, I really enjoy it. It is admittedly a bit messy and directionless, but I think that payed off well

GR is better but not by much. They both have 3 or 4 metal epic masterpieces and a few good or great soft songs. If WS has one more metal epic they'd probably be tied at 4.5

Yeah but GR has the The Grand Conjuration which is just so weak and boring.
Agree with JT about the flow of GR being superior though

Harlequin Forest and Ghost of Perdition are their best songs in the last 10+ years though. Baying of the Hounds and Beneath the Mire are amazing too

Nero, tell JT how hard Eternal Rains rules please.

The Lotus Eater, Heir Apparent and Ghost of Perdition are all top 10 for me. Harlequin Forest loses its steam but the first half is awesome, as is the second half of Baying of the Hounds.

Also, the production on Watershed is better

GR was the first Opeth album I bought and I listened to it constantly, it also has some of their best tracks, like you mentioned.

I see what you mean about Grand Conjuration, you do feel at points they could have shortened it but the song is evil as fuck and 6:31....just amazing haha

Radio edit of Grand Conjuration doesn't do it any service either

I like Eternal Rains better than anything from their last 2 albums, except maybe Heir Apparent

"every part rules, whereas the songs on ws had parts that were good and parts that were whatever."

Oh, I like The Grand Conjuration, but it's one of the worst songs on Ghost Reveries, but that makes it still good.
