How was THP more ambitious than this? Not bashing, just honestly curious

THP was not more ambitious. It was fairly ambitious for LP, and an excellent album which definitely nailed the vibe they were going for, but not more ambitious than this, an album vastly out of their comfort zone with impressive commitment to the sound they were going for

if by ambitious you mean completely bury their actual talent in several layers of electronics, sure.

linkin park never had any actual talent. using "several layers of electronics" as you call it has been by far their best attempt to hide that fact.

a thousand suns could have easily been an actually good album had they made a few different production choices (get rid of the simplistic beats, loosen up song structures a bit, add some rawness and there you go)

@Cowboy sure, I mean your argument seems to be that THP was musically and technically strong, which is correct, but in terms of the end goal / the concept or vision they were going for, its hard to argue any LP project was more ambitious than this

"yeah...real ambitious"
Ambitious for them dude. It was significantly more serious (well, take it more seriously than the angst on the first two lps). Using actual historical samples and such? Pretty ambitious compared to rap verses and crawling in one's skin

I wasn't making a joke or calling the rap verses bad, sorry if it came off that way. I was just a making a comparison to this and pre-ats

THP was the band's attempt at going less commercial and creating an album akin to Hybrid Theory without the nu metal. Obviously either the record label meddled in the process (which I personally think is the case because of how much of a black sheep Until Its Gone and Final Masquerade are on the album) or the band wasn't self-aware enough with the direction without the aid of an outside person as a co-producer. THP also at least displays how above competent Rob and Brad are at their respective instruments if they actually try
