this will rustle jimmies but even early on in my fandom/love for this album I always did find the "archangel" vox a bit...irritating. def a good song but not one of my favorites (but I'm not sure I'd say the putative annoyingness of the vox is the sole reason why yeehaw0

it's all about Shell of Light

shell of light feels like the most unique maybe, the one that straddles "ambient" and "dubstep" most splashlessly. it might be my favorite as well. idk how that one vocal sample is so good...

that said: i repeat myself but s/t is my favourite by an ever-increasing margin, to the extent that spinning this usually just makes me crave the comforts of s/t instead. it's that much bleaker, that much more enveloping, that much scarier and that much more beautiful. if this is conceptually a walk home at 4am in the drizzle while you're Feeling Things s/t is one that takes you on disorienting detours en route under the cloak of darkness. idk

agreed wines. i honestly dont really listen to this one anymore, only s/t. masterpiece

lots of really amazing stuff from this era that didn't make any albums. songs listed in an order that i think offers cohesion and consonance
Versus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBmIjcg7psg (the most obvious harbinger of what he'd go on to do on Kindred; maximalist and cinematic)
Stairwell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYO3CKrCIuE (burial goes hardcore; the drums on this are fucking nuts)
Speedball2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72Rxxx5pCkA (the most atypical Burial track of the bunch; big, wobbly jelly with granules of gelatin in for crunch)
Feral Witchchild: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj5C0b5Dqng (this is an ersatz construction i think - don't think it was ever unearthed beyond an excerpt - but three and a half minutes beats 30 seconds. the most likely to have become "big")
Lambeth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3-noHMTLhA (come-down to us. a real urgent and ominous quality to this)
Gaslight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dek0diwQ0r0 (drums so propulsive it induces one's resting heartrate to catch up w/ s/t type anxieties)
Unite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdjnn3rDxEg (quite obviously an Untrue cut. idk there's some piano on it and spectral voices serve as a Greek Chorus so)
True Love V.I.P.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag7lxtWKHjw (this used to be one of my favourites but i hadn't listened to it in half a decade! what can u do eh. the faltering piano is so beautiful omgg)
:#)
