Lol.
Intro of Met Pt. 1 is hard to beat.

This might end up as one of my top 10 albums of all time. One of those unique, irreplicable albums.

what % of this band’s existence can we attribute to Rush?
I just need to know where the blame lies

Good album.

I mean you can hear some influence for sure, but tempos and instrumental emphasis are very different. (On Rush and DT)

I really hear Portnoy trying so so so hard to be like Peart and also they have been using Hugh Syme for every single album cover for like 20 years
musically it's a bit harder to find a link but even then it's not an outrageous claim

I agree with Titan. We cannot compare the sound of those bands because are completely different.

o yea I forgot the original name Majesty was inspired by a Rush song and singles from the first album were produced by Terry Brown and the tracks on WDADU are very Rush sounding, so probably like 69% their fault

They are indeed pretty different. But you can't tell me some Dream Theater stuff isn't heavily inspired by Rush. The soft bridge in Learning to Live, Trial of Tears, The Best of Times, Barstool Warrior, The Looking Glass, Transcending Time, literally all the times they use the Natural Science riff. And yeah most of the first album (or the Majesty song Another Won).

Rush is my all time favorite band - I'm what you call a fanatic. A fanboy, if you will. I also love Dream Theater to a lesser extent, but they are one of my faves growing up. With that, I have NEVER correlated the two bands - not once. Hugh Syme doing cover art is irrelevant - he's done cover art for many. Are they inspired? Sure they are as some of them are Rush fanboys themselves - they openly admit it. But never once have I said boy this sounds like Rush or vice versa. Not once. In 40 years.
