Yeah Time is the best song off the album IMO, but I dunno I don't see how you could view the lyrics as anything other than depressing, I'm pretty sure that's the way they were written.
like I said, I think there are multiple ways to look at the lyrics. that's what I love about this band. the way I predominantly look at it, by itself and ESPECIALLY in the context of the album as a whole, is this: there are so many things in life that can give you anxiety and eventually drive you literally crazy if you worry about them and focus on them too much.
I think Time, and the album, to me represent the futility of trying to control things. There are certain things in our life that are always going to be out of our control, and for me, that album has helped me come to terms with that as it applies to my own life.
You just can't control everything in your life, it's literally impossible. Some would look at this fact as very depressing. but personally, there's something extremely therapeutic about reminding myself that I can't, and shouldn't try to control everything around me, while listening to this album.
