Opeth are known for their Prog Death Metal. I believe they are the best at it. Damnation just showed that they aren't all there for their Cryptopsy brutality and technical (and of course, co-ordinated) mayhem. But my favourite album out of all of them is easily Blackwater Park. Damnation had me at it, but bwp just blew my mind away after listening to it hours after hours after hours. After that, would be Still Life, it is Blackwater Park v2. except much more (romantically) emotional and beautiful. The opener "The Moor" i believe is the best song they have ever done. Next of, trailing close behind is Watershed. This album had much more diversity then any other, despite being weak at points (a lot can be blamed for Heir Apparent, I think). Then Damnation. Then Ghost Reveries. Ghost Reveries was, as it's title suggests, ghostly. I can see why so many people favor this album as their best.

The Candlelight Years was almost like coming from a completely different band, the production was tinny, the vocals ridden with mediocrity and the whole band's sound was on the whole immature. But that's only comparing that to the other Opeth albums which is of course not fair at all. Orchid and Morningrise are both massively under-rated and the reason is because, fans of Opeth do in fact compare the albums with their latter orgasmic stuff. My Arms, Your Hearse is halfway between Still Life and Orchid, and I feel in a sense that makes it totally original and like Watershed diverse. I could end up liking it more then Blackwater Park in the long run but we'll see.

Still Life is certainly romantic, it is indeed about Melinda. BWP is very minimal in design, but crafted elegantly, but it's hardly similar to Still Life.
