im glad im not the only one who hates digipaks, i hated them when they first started becoming a thing.
at this point most of my music money goes towards FLAC's from bandcamp unless theres like a really good album i want a physical copy of.

ya i mean sometimes i dont have a choice so i do own a shit ton of digipaks but i just like the quality of a jewel case. granted nowadays jewel cases are flimsy as fuck, meanwhile a jewel case from 1988 is like a goddamn n64 cartridge

I used to love collecting CDs, especially jewel cases with proper linear notes etc. so agreed completely with Sonic there. It was a digipak, but at least Cult of Luna's latest had a full booklet of artwork and lyrics to peruse, that's the only CD I've actually bought this year. Flicking through it gave me major nostalgic vibes.
The vinyl resurgence felt outside of my affordable price bracket, like technically I COULD but it wouldn't be sensible and my collection would be a lot smaller than my desires would want, and so I have never taken the plunge. Until recently I didn't feel like there'd be sufficient space for a collection anyway, which was also part of it
Now instead of bothering with vinyl I am actually reconsidering getting back into CDs, they are still way more cost effective and I like actually owning physical copies.

"The vinyl resurgence felt outside of my affordable price bracket" I hear that. I wanted to get into it recently but the amount it costs to buy 3 or 4 vinyl covers 7 or 8 CDs

That doesn't sound too bad in all honesty, sometimes it can be more than double - depends I guess. A lot of the stuff I'd want is also now out of print and getting hold of a 2nd-hand vinyl copy is pricey as hell.
I do really like the idea of going to record fairs and perusing / randomly picking up a few gems you've heard of that 'look interesting' though, lol
ah well
