look, if you still want to support or listen to an artist despite them being horrible people then that's your thing. I think it's an idiotic argument, especially for musicians who write very personal music, which only means their abusive escapades bleed into their songwriting. To actively ignore and apologize over something they did that was horribly wrong is a completely different thing. Jesse Lacey had years and years to make things right towards someone he wronged, but he didn't, this apology comes out AFTER the pitchforks come for him so it will never, ever look like anything other than "sorry I was caught". It's like Johnny said, the culture and society as a whole will never improve if those guilty are not held accountable. Situations like this have no expiration date. By actively apologizing for people such as Jesse Lacey, you're feeding into the whole ideal of 'rape culture' in the US, regardless of if people think it exists or not.

You know what, you're absolutely right.

I hadn't thought about the damage that was done to that girl and the fact he never directly apologised to her, considering this it does look more like a "sorry I got caught situation". I apologise for being ignorant.

oh come on. i understand that people have a tendency to justify immorality but it's pretty standard that being a perv to underaged girls isn't ok. and, based on Lacey's response, he's been battling this for a while. he's known that he was in the wrong for a long time. if he had been more open about this when it had actually occurred, then who knows: maybe the scene at the time could've had a preemptive overhaul. so many musicians were complicit in this shit.
