Well that was something, blimey. I was in awe of In Awe Of, amazing setlist all round and one I definitely wasn't expecting (thanks dedex, lol).

You have to love it when a band plays some of the most crushing riffs known to man, yet you can still hear the dude playing the maracas.

Interesting variety of people there, seemingly quite the eclectic mix.

Yeah that's what impressed me the most, how heavy they could be while still letting each instruments shine.

I think the way they utilise electronics may be the greatest evolution/implementation of that idea in the history of heavy music (probably not even hyperbole, although admittedly I've given this zero thought).

I agree Demon. I saw them live briefly at Hellfest 2008 and they absolutely destroyed the arena. The songs sounded incredible and the tent was like a smoke bomb had been set off because of the marijuana and crack/gear fumes. Altogether, Hellfest '07, '08 and '09 were the best experiences of my youth when I was 18 - 22. Best European metal/punk/rock festival ever in my opinion.

Just like most post-metal, in considerable weight and leaning, ISIS and Neurosis amongst other, this sort of music is built on atmosphere and layering rather in your face heaviness. What I like most about the genre is the instrumentation but the vocals and lyrical topics are also excellent.

Yeah it was kind of funny seeing guys that just looked so desperate to get some head-banging/moshing going, but at the same time didn't really understand if that's what they should be doing. The amount of times the crowd starting cheering to applaud the track half way through was amusing as well, no guys it's not done yet... nope, still not done, try again.

I love riffs, but yeah CoL aren't really about the riffs - or at least that's not what makes them so special.

'There were people expecting some moshing at a Cult of Luna show?'

99% of people weren't, just ya know, odd guy that probably just came along for the ride not really knowing what to expect. I'm looking at you 'Entombed hoodie man'.

Good lord I love this band. Tonight was a blast. I love how much rawer and more aggressive they sound live, almost like their first couple albums

We had a few moshers too occasionally but nothing too major. I'm quite happy that a lot of people turned up for Brutus

"The amount of times the crowd starting cheering to applaud the track half way through was amusing" [222] crowd applauded after every crescendo/climax basically

When it clicks?

You mean about 10 secs into the opening track?

I mean I've liked it from day 1, but something happened yesterday while I was listening to Nightwalkers and it was beautiful, like I was listening to the album with different ears. could be because I was under a lot of stress lately and I haven't been giving it the attention it deserves. I think I was always listening to it while going somewhere or while doing something. yesterday I finally blasted it through speakers and oh my god it felt gooood

Yeah I can relate to that notion. Altar of Plagues gave me a similar thought process. Sometimes the timing of the music is just as important as the music itself.

I really want to love this, but it is so damn long...not as long as this comments section, but really damn long. Going to try it again next time I've got a road trip going.

What's with the negative attitude towards moshing to post metal?

Damn this holds up well. Have realised I used pretty much the same hook as Lights on the Hill builds into for the coda of an electro/post punk song back in 2017 do I get honorary aoty status?
