'It does seem like Fish was the engine driver for the band's stratospheric success'

Not convinced by this at all lmfao, Sempiternal was basically complete before Fish got involved and Oli is the ideas man. Also There is a Hell is their best album.

sempiternal and especially there is a hell are not the albums that got them to 13mil spotify listeners tho. sempiternal was the biggest "scene" album of its time but they have wayyyy surpassed that. they've been the biggest contemporary metal band for at least the last five years.

not to say the rest of the band is untalented, they obv made multiple (i'd argue) equally good albums without fish, but i absolutely don't think they'd be capable of their circa-2015 pop metal turn without fish. that's the spirit was this generation's black album

^Alex did a good job of clarifying what I meant.

BMTH were a huge success before Fish entered the picture. The band has legs and Oli has star power.

Fish, however, unlocked their full potential and was the guy that made them capable of collaborating with Ed Sheeran and stuff. I think BMTH would've been successful without Fish but with him they ascended to a level that few bands ever do.

Yeah, there’s a hell… is their best imo, but this band wouldn’t be anywhere near where they are now were it not for fish’s involvement.

Be interesting to see how the new material stacks up

Nah, amo is the best BMTH album. Easily. *Hot take* Listening to the new album has made me realise how flawless the production actually was on this too.

first half of this actually was surprisingly pretty enjoyable, wonderful life is great fun. second half falls off so hard. mother tongue is ed sheeran bad and medicine is unbearable sugar pop. not as bad as i thought i guess.
