Personally I dislike the two songs that follow those two more but neither of those tunes are great either. All four together is their worst run since the debut...



...but, I like all the other eight songs a lot and that's almost enough material for an album anyway.



Born to Beg is retread territory but that one I forgive the most as it still works into the flow of the album ok.



You could drop turtle/empire/destroy and I'd not miss 'em greatly and the album would flow better for me.

Walk it back might be my fave Natty song.

This is the first National album I can’t really get into. I mean there’s are few standouts of course but can’t listen through the whole album

“Light Years” from the new one is now out. It’s amazing.

Doof I challenge you to find a major fault in this one.

It's staid and played out, not as terrible as the first single but nothing interesting. Still think the new one will be The National's Painting With.

Listening now, seems alright, your standard piano ballad - nothing standing out too much.



The melody actually reminds me of an Anathema songs (though admittedly I have been listening to loads of Anathema recently) - a bit of 'Ariel' or 'Electricity' in there maybe.



I'm a sucker for a piano ballad so this might grow...but then it also has a hell of a lot of competition.

It ain’t “Pink Rabbits” but I’ll already say it’s probably bettter than “Carin at the Liquor Store” as far as late album Natty piano tunes go.
