The thing I struggle with concerning other people's ratings on this site are the preconceptions.
Jeff Buckley = pretty voice, if I like pretty voice I 5/5.
Radiohead = experimental, if I don't think this is experimental enough I rate 2.5/5.
The singing on this is so good, for me I prefer it to JB 'Grace'. Anyone who rates Grace a 5 and this lower than a 4 that's fine but my eyebrow will raise

Yorke claimed Buckley was one of his main influences on this record
Concerning Fake Plastic Trees:
'The band were finding it difficult to finalize the song's composition and decided to attend a Jeff Buckley concert at Highbury. When they returned to the studio mesmerised by Buckley's set, Yorke sang the song twice before breaking down into tears.'

and Mikael Akerfeldt is a pretty huge of fan of some Australian pop rock bands, doesn't give the comparison any more base

I just classify this as one of the great vocal albums of the 90's but a lot of people here are just raking through it for signs of future experimentation. I don't think that's really what the appeal of the album is.
