His clean vocals have never particularly done much for me, they've just kinda been 'there'.
His harsh vocals on this album though...

I should elaborate that while Aaron says he doesn’t dislike using clean vocals ( as Reinquished pointed out, he sung on Arrows To Our Hearts on The Ape Of God II), he thought it wasn’t an enjoyable challenge and got too self conscious about. These days he only resorts to using clean vocals if it’s done a melodic way but not in a way that’s classified as rock, citing Jodis and even a band like Codeine as examples. His drone album NOX with Daniel Menche is another example but that’s mostly him just humming a droning note.

I like how the cleans act more like an extra layer to the music, makes everything come together. Ending of Grinning Mouths anyone?

He said in an interview one time he doesn’t exactly love his cleans so I think that’s why layers of music enhance his voice.

ITAOT is their best by a margin.

ITAOT is probably their most progressive album but Oceanic and Panopticon are both hard 5's.
