Nowhere near the 4.4 here though. A 4.4 here should be more of a 4.0 if not higher on RYM so this is a clear case of greater bias here.

4 on RYM is a huge score though.

One of the few instances I'll disagree with ya Boney, I think this is one of the most essential alt rock albums of all time and really is the album that defined the 90's rock generation, both in sound, visual aesthetic, the times, etc. Plus lets be real, RYM has their own circle jerks as well.

Well as I've said I haven't actually heard this in a long time to the point where for all intents and purposes I haven't heard it, so it's possible I could love this. Judging on the songs I sampled last night though, probably not.
However, to say this is the definitive album of the 90s rock generation is kind of outrageous when you have a ton of other albums and bands who were equally if not more popular both commercially and especially critically. I mean this does not seem to have been a critical favorite at all hence my surprise upon initially seeing how high the average for this is. And the 3.57 on RYM really isn't all that impressive either - it has less than 2000 ratings there too, also not exactly impressive.
Sure, RYM have some circle jerks too (though I'm actually pretty hard pressed to think of any particular ones or at least ones that aren't circle jerked here too off the top of my head, or at least none that are more circle jerked than they generally are by music fans), but Sput's are much more obvious and drastic. There's no problem with that - it just means that Sput tends to draw a particular niche of music fans (one which, in general, I tend not to fit in).
Basically the difference between here and RYM is that RYM draws a much wider variety of niches which end up cancelling each other out in most cases. On Sput the metal/emo/hardcore/post-hardcore/pop punk etc circles predominate to a greater degree.

"and really is the album that defined the 90's rock generation, both in sound, visual aesthetic, the times,"

I can see this being archetypal of 90s rock but it's definitely not definitive.

His statement makes it sound like he's talking Nirvana but he's just talking Third Eye Blind.
Either way gonna check this out today, hope I like .
