Bloodbirds in and of itself is a life-affirming moment but that just goes without saying. And I think Sunlight is talking about a special edition track called Scars Of The Shattered Sky that is 20 minutes long, not the Our Fortress Is Burning trifecta.

Bingo. I didn't even know it was a bonus track. This sort of changes my perspective of the album as a whole knowing it's 'just' a bonus track.

I've decided to ignore the fact 'Scars' exists for the purpose of evaluating this album, therefore it's definitely a 5. The bonus track just feels too much afterthee other tracks & it's way too long.

i don't think many of us included scars in our appraisal anyway it was culled from the album for a reason? As a standalone track it is cool though

It makes The Grain feel less out of place since that one more or less becomes the transition track from post metal to the gloomy drone stuff. But yeah, I also think it makes the album too long.

Agreed Rik. I guess it depends whether you knew or not, occasionally there's a bonus track & I'm not aware it is one until some time afterwards, by that time it's just part of the album.
For the record I'd probably 4.5 this if I was including 'Scars'.

I never include them in my ratings either, this album is the only exception since it makes the album so much better for me. I'd have to possibly drop my rating for this if I didn't include it.
