As very fucking good records that people often call classics go this is like the opposite of an ostensive WOW album. Gotta sink a fair ways into that mood before you notice how well it's constructed etc
Same with the vocals. Beth's vox is obvs to die for, but it took me years to realise how much emotional depth she packs behind the aahing and noiring

even with classics that aren't WOW albums there's often a point where I can tell "aight yea somethin special is going on here" even if I haven't quite grasped it yet
this didn't quite evoke that feeling but it's unlikely all the praise is completely unwarranted so I'll def revisit this more

I used to always think "this album isn't really for me but I can always count on Mysterons" but then I played Mysterons today and even it kinda sucked
