ok thoughts:

Really interesting album here, even if a bit mellow and simple in form. first song kinda threw me off vocally as I'm not the biggest fan of the style (reminds me too much of modern "hard rock") but some of these songs are brilliant instrumentally. To Rid the Disease and In My Time of need were some of my favorites. really dug the subtle psych influences and eastern vibes a couple of these tracks give off as well. Overall I'd give this a 3.4/5, could def see it growing tho. also the Johnny worship guitar wise is really cool, such intricate riffs and pluckings

'And yeah it's totally a grower; most of their albums are in fact'

For me every Opeth album (up to Watershed) EXCEPT this one was immediately gratifying, this definitely took it's time.

"Not really sure which Johnny he's referring to"

After much searching on the internets, I have concluded that it's Johnny Winter.

Surely it's a reference to the ol' western film from 1954.

So I think Windowpane is about Michael catching his own reflection and seeing a sad and confused weirdo.

I've always thought it was about him seeing a ghost.

It's about a ghost.

The whole album is basically about loss and the 'damnation' of a soul p much.

how many of their songs aren't about ghosts though
