Man this thread is pretty funny. I don’t remember seeing anyone claim that this band was the first one to imbue their music with Floyd influence or whatever other musical approaches. Music is as music does. Why is there still so much discussion about who ‘did it first’?

Couldn't care less personally. All that matters is that this rips, which it quite clearly does.

I mean that is subjective but i agree with ya obviously ; )

I think the PF influence was initially used as a criticism against the album because people were digging for things to complain about as they saw the album getting consistently rave reviews. Framing the PF influence as being derivative is an incredibly weak argument and would go against nearly every popular metal album in existence if the same criticism were applied. But for some reason folks wanted to use this album as their lightning rod for disingenuous debate.

^ just the nature of the beast. Thing is getting great reviews? Consistently reported as great?
I hate it. Here's why it's actually bad and you're actually bad for liking it.

Music discussion not allowed if I like the album

Lambasting this album for being influenced by one of the most influential bands to ever exist and using it as a cudgel to argue the album isn't as good as other people think is very weak music discussion. Especially for this album where it was cried about to a disproportionate amount. You might as well point to Tangerine Dream's inclusion on this album and accuse Tangerine Dream of sounding too much like Tangerine Dream. That's how much sense the initial PF arguments made.

Album rules like a cult LP; don't mind the naysayers talk.

I mean if the PF rip is derivative, then could I get a bunch of recs for similar proggy osdm metal albums that rip 70s prog? Honest question, because I haven't heard any similar to this one and I would really like to lol

And that's the thing, you're gonna struggle because what BI is doing on this album; combining death metal, prog, and synth into a coherent suite of songs that is simultaneously distinct but connected, engaging and interesting but easy to listen to and digest, is insanely hard to pull off. You risk the music being impenetrable to the average listener (which some folks on this site consider to be a virtue) or it's going to lean too heavily in one direction and miss the mark.
Nothing else hits that sweet spot quite like this album did for a lot of people. Naysayers be damned. If what they did on this album is so easy, point me to where it's been done before.

"Why is there still so much discussion about who ‘did it first’?"
that's beside the point - plenty of ways to blend influences without coming off as janky pastiche as this does.
don't get me wrong, i'm v much here for the jank - but there's definitely a lowish ceiling on how seriously i'm prepared to take this album, and the metal sections are hit or miss to the point that it doesn't get a pass as pure entertainment
