This is growing on me slightly but I'm still not seeing what separates this from the mathcore greats in quality. New record is so much better

“This is growing on me slightly but I'm still not seeing what separates this from the mathcore greats in quality. New record is so much better”
I think Carson is a much better vocalist than your average mathcore band and your average mathcore band would not be able to write a song like Title Track. Aside from that… yeah. This just mostly goes hard as fuck and is very fun but the new one is waaaaaayyy better imo
Having said that tho, this is a breeze to get through, I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven is so much more dense, for better and worse. I think there’s a little bit of fat they could’ve trimmed there and had that happened I’d probably 5 it. Still, Schizophrenia Legacy, Full Moon Guidance, Lemon, Idiot Temptation Force, and Distracted By The Mona Lisa are fucking all timers man.
I remember when the EP dropped after this came out, a lot of people were worried that they’d get too melodic, and I was one of them tbh, but I honestly hope they go even further in that direction with whatever they do next. To me they’re really the only band I’ve heard in this style since Dillinger that balances the batshit riffs and anthemic choruses so well. Rolo Tomassi is another but Eva just can’t write a hook like Carson imo. He’s one of the best vocalists in heavy music today in my humble opinion.

The new record is what converted me into a fan and I agree that the melodic/poppier direction is great for this band and the future of the genre. Carson's vocal and songwriting ability come together beautifully while the rest of the bands have the chops to back up the vision. Seeing them live I think is what is giving me a better appreciation of this record on the revisit. Also would agree he's one of the best in the genre and a lovely gent on top of it. Can't wait to see where they go next!

I mean I really see it like how I see Dillinger post Calculating Infinity. Now obviously Die on Mars isn’t nearly as influential (or good) as CI, but I mean it’s the exact trajectory that Dillinger had. I’m very very excited to see what these guys do next, I feel like they are capable of making a full blown masterpiece

“I will love me so you don’t have to embrace in all my struggles.”
Title Track is still their best song. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s literally one of the best mathcore tracks ever and one of the best songs of the decade.
