Half in the Bag is the bleeding edge of online culture.

It’s super weird listening to an album for the first time but then a song you’ve heard a ton of times comes on.
In other words I was not expecting to hear “Here Comes Your Man”, had no idea it was by the Pixies.

The first time listening to this record is special. When "No. 13 Baby" rolls around you'll be wondering why you put it off for so long.

I’m on my second listen now after a first listening earlier today. It’s a good record. Not mindblowing by any means. Probably better than Surfer Rosa though.

It is. Bossanova is of the same quality as this one.

I have a feeling I’ll prefer their 90s output. This and Surfer Rosa are good stuff, but I don’t connect with them on a deeper level. They feel kind of like relics. It feels weird and kind of wrong to listen to them in 2018. I don’t think it helps that both have songs that I’ve heard lots out of context before. Makes the experience feel less personal.

They were an influence on everyone in the 90s. Their sound is still all over the place in alternative music.

Yeah for sure. I think it’s a sort of “I respect it more than I enjoy it” sort of deal. I’ll prob end p giving this a 4, maybe even a 4.5, but do I see myself continuing to return to it frequently? Probably not.

It's a great summer album. I'll return to it if the sun ever comes back.

I can see that, maybe I just need the right mood.

Such exciting songwriting on this album

robertsona is right. There's a ton of lyrical references you won't pick up on for a good dozen or so listens.

It’s a bit too all over the place. Might be interesting songwriting but maybe there’s not enough solid songwriting at the core of it? Only a few tracks here feel like they could be “classic songs”.

I guess the thing is that this and Surfer Rosa feel like music written for performance, not music written for expression. It’s fun and cool and interesting, but does it go any deeper than that? Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that, it just makes it a bit less personally appealing for me.

Pixies fucks with my emotions more than most bands honestly. It definitely has emotional appeal and expression for those that it appeals to.

Yeah Boney this has emotions - listen more!
