also pretty funny because the dark eternal night is pretty easily the most enduring live staple of anything they've made since octavarium, even in the years portnoy wasn't in the band lmao.
i don't really like the song but can def see how it'd be fun in a live setting.

one thing i've always wondered... a change of seasons was written to be on this album. petrucci does not use a 7-string at all on this album (and potentially didn't even own one yet) but of course uses one on ACOS. was it originally written like that or was it reworked a bit?

It was reworked. They didn't include it here, but there are Kevin Moore versions floating around. The final version is a bit different in its structure and some other details. I prefer the final version tbh and I read an interview where a band member said the song needed more time cooking, so not being on I&W was better in the end
