I like that you generally have opinions that I don't agree with Ars, it's a good way to actually get
some debate going. I agree that a track doesn't need to be epic to be good, I just don't find
anything particularly engaging about those two songs. They are just kind of there, without having
much interesting musicianship or inspired lyrics, which comparatively makes them pale next to the
titanic Echoes which sounds like an acid trip in the deep sea of a faraway planet.
Dark Side is my fave Floyd so no way Piper comes close to it for me. I view Piper sort of like The
Bends; it would be a great record if all their mid-70'd material hadn't completely eclipsed it.

Yeah good comparison but it's a great record regardless, as is the Bends

when it comes to 60's psych pop, I'd take surrealistic pillow, revolver, pet sounds, odessey and oracle and forever changes over piper everyday of the week

Animals is my favorite (Meddle is second though)
In my opinion, those two are songs aren't trying to be epic, so to judge them like that isn't even fair. If anything the calmness of "Seamus" enhances the epicness of "Echoes."
In my opinion, some of Pink Floyd's best songs are the mellow ones.
"Breathe" is my favorite from Dark Side of the Moon for similar reasons.

1.Fearless
2.San Tropez
3.Seamus
4.Echoes
5.One of These Days
6.A Pillow of Winds
I can't get my head around this, is this your actually ranking? I mean you're picking songs that any band who are competent (or even average) musicians/songwriters could write and perform (Seamus and San Tropez) over a masterpiece that defines Floyd and that only they could have come up with.
Of course it's your opionion and who am I to argue with it but I personally can't see how anyone who respects Floyd for what they do could say the likes of Seamus and San Tropez are some of their best songs. But that's just my opinion.
