Yeah as far as albums of theirs that snare and trap you, this is pinning me something fierce in a way that only Catch-33 has previously done. I mean, I don't want to give up the goat status of that album but this is like, right there.

"Its the best of dei and nothing all into one"

Yup. Perfect middle ground album between the two you get the more frantic thrashy dei playing along with the slower more groovy nothing coming into the album. This is way better than dei to me always has been. Better albim in pretty much everyway.

DEI is still their best imo but I’m gonna [3] these stylistic sentiments for sure, this is the best combo of their different sounds and such a unique album

I remember downloading Neurotica & Sane back when Kazaa and Winamp playlists were still a thing.

Probably some nostalgia at play here (had some tracks from DEI downloaded as well but didn't like them quite as much) and I still have some other albums to re-visit, but this is currently my favourite 'shug.

The first Meshuggah album to fully indulge in the Über-Technical groove metal style that is so characteristic of them, which was hinted at on the debut and established as the band's goal with Destroy Erase Improve. Needless to say, a fair portion of song individuality unfortunately had to go in order to make room for all the polyrhythmic baggage. The sound however has gotten a lot heavier, pummeling and more chillingly robotic as a compensation for it, so not all is lost. It's fine if you feel like getting smacked in the face hard by T-800 or some shit right now, but that's it for this album's purpose, I'm afraid.
