I think Slipknot has this misconception that their fans who aren't teenagers actually give a fuck about the identity/mask/whatever nonsense.

New album is decent, having heard all the songs at least once I'd say it's slightly inferior to Iowa

It's better than this, and that's surprising.

If they ditched the masks I don't think they would receive nearly as much shit

At this point yeah, they've probably already peaked in popularity and should just focus on making the best MUSIC they can since they're obviously talented enough, and stop worrying about their image and secret identities which are all outed anyway.

It's funny because the whole numbering of members and wearing of masks was to originally keep anonymity to the band, so there's really no point behind it at this point.

and Psychosocial might be catchy, but I wouldn't call it good

a handful of songs on .5 are about on par with psychosocial imo

.5 is also much more consistent than this

Yeah. I'm not that big on Psychosocial. There are way too many, "hey, this is a relevant style of metal" moments in that song.

tbh I think that they should still keep the masks, just for entertainment value, but this whole identity secrecy "we're not revealing the identities of our already known non-permanent band members" thing is ridiculous. I really like Slipknot but they're just taking it too far and no-one is taking it seriously except them.

, but it's awkward when they're writing songs with an Iowa influence next to the ones

that sound all Stone Sour-y

.5 has more consistency than AHIG which is why it's better overall, but it lacks any stand out songs. Like a second rate, melodic Iowa.

new album is meh overall, 3-4 decent/good songs can't save it from a dozen painfully average and few horrible songs

That sounds more like all 80s thrash fans and 1/4 of 80s metal fans to me.

dude i liked this band before and still like a good amount of their songs. Vol.3 is a great album for example (and their best), so idk what you mean.. the new album is just not that good.
