That is precisely the appeal of the album for me, funny enough.

That's not true though. New Grass is extremely linear.

That complaint about "meandering" only makes sense for the first track and Taphead.

I still don't see how his solo work is a complete rip off of Talk Talk. But the influence is obvious.

If a whale hums along to New Grass is it still a song?

Songs can still have a traditional structure and "meander," though, so linearity doesn't negate his point. My issue is that the term "meandering" in this context is pejorative, whereas I don't find the particular unhurried/exploratory quality of this album (or Spirit of Eden, for that matter) to be a negative.

Yeah, I think the ebb and flow of the dynamics here constitute a well-earned Meander. Criticising it for that element is like slamming pop for its simplicity

I guess that's why I didn't know what he meant by meandering.
