This rules but the one after this is the one that makes me want to cry and headbang at the same time

I wish I could rediscover Meshuggah but then again I don't want to go back to the days of being forced to play sports and attending Hebrew school.

I wish I could go back to simpler times when I thought Avenged Sevenfold was the hottest shit on the planet.

The main riff in BRI is so damn good, but I'd say there are better Opeth songs, even on this record. Still brilliant though

m/ I got Orchid and Morningrise for Christmas one year and for months would just listen to them back to back. I would follow along through the lyric books hanging out in an old recliner and just sink into the atmosphere on both. Such simpler times.

The blackened feel really makes this special and enhances the acoustic sections.

This still holds up so well.
The transitions from heavy to light aren't as smooth as later releases but as others mentioned, there is a blackened influence here. Also, more guitar harmonies than I remember.

yeah the vibe on this one is perfect, it's probably my favourite Opeth in terms of general sound & aesthetic. I grew to love the imperfections & despite the fact I can recognise these minor flaws, it doesn't alter my experience in any negative way.

Completely agreed Demon. The imperfections are part of its charm. Undeniably great record. One of their best for sure.

On some days I agree with you! On others it's all about MAYH.

I heard parts of Ghost Reveries first, but this was the first Opeth album that I bought. Like Thrust said, it was a great moment in music for me. It fired my imagination and was one of those albums that showed me music's many possibilities.
