"if you can't justify it there's little point posting about it because you can't have a decent discussion about it"
that's kind of a stupid attitude tbh
"Despite the hype I found [Pass the Baby] to be one of the weaker songs here. It has a cool atmosphere overall but it's not very memorable and riff it builds to is just okay."

This is really bringing to mind their Clarity days and that's one hell of a good thing.

you know in my music class we're learning a lot about blues: country blues, gospel blues, rural blues; but with the sudden rise in popularity among integrity blues and transit blues, i think my textbook is gonna need some heavy revisions within the next year or two

after a couple more listens, Pass the Baby is probably my least favorite on the new record. That stretch of tracks between it and It Matters really kills the momentum of the first two songs.

I agree about the dip in momentum. One of the biggest flaws of the album I think. I think Through should be track 2, and Sure & Certain track 3. Just to keep momentum up for one more song at the beginning. Also I think track 3 is generally a good place for singles for this band. The Middle, Work, Always Be.

it isn't even necessarily that those songs are weak (though I will gladly argue that Pass the Baby feels not only very out of place, but its first half is also really underdeveloped and not as successfully brooding as it thinks it is)
it's really more just that this album more so than pretty much any JEW has really wonky flow. The highlights are so so good, but the more average songs feel weaker due to how everywhere the middle of the disc is imo

It Matters totally fell flat for me on first listen. And it's actually a great song, which goes to show that I just wasn't ready to hear a song like that at that point in the album.
