The adjective is in every way accurate imo. "Everything I feel returns to you somehow"...the whole record is about his mother's death and how she's everywhere yet nowhere to him.

the album doesn't necessarily sound haunting to me but the concept certainly brings goosebumps

I guess it just depends on how you define haunting.

What sense of the word is NOT directly applicable to this album?

Would it be controversial to my reputation to say that this is basically tied with TDAG as my all time favorite album?

I would be happy to hear it had supplanted TDAG

Every song on here has a special meaning to me now. It also feels more appropriate for where I am in life right now. The angsty "what's the meaning of life" aura surrounding TDAG is still magnificent, but not necessarily personally relevant.

I'm with you sowing, older I get the more I begin connecting with new emotions and themes that reflect where I'm currently at and becoming disconnected with music that used to resonate so strongly with me.

this has replaced seven swans as my favorite sufjan album. i don't think he'll ever write anything as emotional or as consistent as this (consistency has always been an issue with sufjan -- even though he's always made some of the best music, his albums haven't always been wholly enjoyable until now)
