Vermis was their densest album by quite a margin so I can understand someone thinking it was an overtly demanding listen. The climax of the title track and that one transition like a third of the way through "The Imperious Weak" still give me goosebumps~

imperious weak is dope

is there a better modern dm song than drown within

nope

like the way that song starts and then the way it rides the riff its just insane these guys are geniuses and its funny because its the same approach and general sound in every song, they dont even solo, they just write these weird dissonant anti melodies and it just works so well, its like the reinventing of gorguts

"drown within is absolutely monstrous, freaking genius structure/rhythms"

Well yeah I'm not disputing that, it's a perfect song but We Are Nil, and Everything is Fire are transcendental. They're so perfect they retroactively made the word "perfect" subject to gradation. So you got like Ulcerate's standard "perfect" tier of songs like Burning Skies, Dead Oceans, Destroyers of all, Vermis, Await Rescission as well as every song on this that doesn't fall into higher tiers of perfection. Then you got The Imperious Weak, Soullessness Embraced and Caecus on their own little plane of existence, and above them you got the tracks I mentioned in the first sentence occupying the "holy-shit-this-has-ruined-all-other-music-ever" perfection tier. Above them is the last bastion of artistic expression occupied only by Omens and Withered and Obsolete, the magnificence of which cannot be comprehended by mortal beings with finite cranial capacities.

So yeah Drown Within is everything you describe it as but Ulcerate still have better songs, ya dig?

Dead Oceans was the first one I heard by them so it'll always have that special place. like Crystal Skull or Thuja Magus Imperium.
