possibly true actually

very true

Bizarre how most of their 2000s albums have higher averages than most of their 90s albums and yet every PT thread on here seems to be full of people who prefer their 90s albums
also yeah Lazarus is the pretty clear standout here

bc mid-2000s metalheads
|
| |
I'm sure that's part of it yeah, but the RYM ratings trends don't seem to show Stupid Dream or SMS overtaking their 2000s stuff as the consensus favorites, so at least over there (where they have a larger sample size, fwiw) it isn't just 2000s metalheads who prefer this and Absentia
Obv not trying to imply anyone's being disingenuous here, it's just interesting to me when albums with lower averages have a larger or more devoted contingent of defenders than albums by the same artist with higher averages

my guess is it's the ever-constant dynamic of the fact that the fans of big albums of high acclaim generally don't feel as obligated to be as vocal as the fans of underrated stuff that feel a bit undermined. i've found a few albums around Sput with some 4.2+ averages with pages of majority sub-3.5 ratings

I wouldn't even say the earlier stuff is underrated (Up the Downstair/Staircase Infinities aside), everything after's pretty solidly acclaimed. I just think the demographic active on Sput is more amenable to psych-y prog than chug-y prog
|
| |
all the chug-y prog bois have been corralled into their Tool threads where they belong
|
| |
lmao damn straight. but their kind held sway here for far too long, and they are still silently voting on albums in this age and economy !! constant vigilence, gang!
i have just realised that both me and ghandhi have this rated higher by one respective increment than akuma no uta and, uh that don't seem right

"Bizarre how most of their 2000s albums have higher averages than most of their 90s albums and yet every PT thread on here seems to be full of people who prefer their 90s albums"
Because most active sputters are contrarians.

I always thought akuma was a little lopsided. The length is non ideal and by the end you're left wanting a bit more.

Yea, I too wished this album had a little more to offer
You know, PT should have left out some of the bad cuts here. Like the title track. Album would have been better immediately

“Because most Sputters are active contrarians”
