@deezer I get the Absence of Truth, that has a pretty obvious Tool influence at least to me.

This, though....this is too good.

This is everything that Absence fails to be agreed

For a long time Absence was my favorite Isis album tbh, so I've never felt like this album was making up for the disappointments of its predecessor, but over time this one has aged a little better and boasts more depth imo.

I haven't listened to Absence in the longest time. I'll give it another chance one of these days.

I love everything about this band - what sets this album apart is the production. Goddam the fucking drum sound...

My favorite drum sound on any record. Anytime I get asked how I want my drums to sound production wise, I point to this album.

I think ITAOT's major flaw is that it hasn't aged well sonically (the Tool influence wasn't bad in comparison IMO) which is why I honestly think it MUST be remixed and remastered as it's the only album that hasn't received the treatment yet. Wavering Radiant has been remastered but it was only for the most recent vinyl reissue.

I would agree with that. ITAOT's production is terrible and that's one of the main reasons it's their weakest album. It's also overlong compared to the others

In the words of Turner himself, it's the album he's most disappointed in because of its "sterile" production. He cited the switch from recording analog on Panopticon to digital on Absence as the reason why it sounds the way it does. He thinks the album should've sounded more livelier and that a potential remix/remaster might fix that problem.

With its shortcomings production wise though, it did result in one of the band's best songs ever.

I couldn't agree more. It's one of the reasons why I had to bump this to a 5.

Yeah, the production on the drums is wonderful. Not just on this but their other albums as well.

Good observation. I thought the same as well. Very roomy without being annoyingly reverb heavy. The production on the bass as well has been phenomenal most notably from Oceanic to the end. You can hear how Caxide can go from meat and potatoes bottom end to the shimmering, reverb/delay heavy basslines within passages i.e. 1000 Shards

"Wavering > Absence > Panopticon > Oceanic > Celestial"

Pretty much, but on some days I might switch Panopticon and Absence.
