Load and ReLoad are still Metallica's, but they are an experiment with blues and country gone wrong.

More like a mid 90s where heavy metal was at a very low point experiment gone wrong.

But Atheist, Death, Cynic, Blind Guardian, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Pantera, and many other wonderful metal bands made some of their finest albums in the 90s.

Yeah the 90s were dominated by death metal, power, black, gothic etc. but thrash and traditional heavy metal were at decline. If you look at what the 80s giants released during the 90s you'll see that they were trying to change their sound. The outcome was albums like this one, The X Factor, Cryptic Writings, Divine Intervention, Roots etc.

Agreed. Diabolus was an even more experimental album with the hardcore elements but Divine Intervention sounds different to my ears simply because of no Lombardo. At least I think, I haven't listened to DI in years.

The first three songs on Diabolus rule, I barely remember Divine Intervention at all.

Idk sounds pretty badass to me. Only thing I could see as negatives is the production and the fact that Hetfield has never been amazing singer, but he fits the band so

Watchtower's vocalists certainly have more ability, but Hetfield certainly fits Metallica for sure.

Metallica are still a good band and this was a good attempt at re-creating in their 50s what they originally did in their 20s.
