"ALA you give too many 2s, at least change them to 3s. your threshold for 2 is too low. what you call is a 2 is what most of us call 2.8"
Not really I mean, a 2 basically means I like 40% or around that percentage of the album, which is accurate when you account for the production and maybe one or two songs. I think MX ironically enough did a very good job of accurately describing scores, I think most users are actually the ones with an improper rating system but that's just me. 2.0 is poor because it means you like less than 50% of the work, and I do.
Pretty much a 2.0 is = Is it hard to finish? Are the lyrics meh? Are the concepts badly executed? Is it still somewhat enjoyable to a very small extent? Are a few songs okay at least?
if so 2.0.

I mean it's all really just how you personally view numerical scores but when someone sees me 2.5 an album I don't want them to think it's completely worthless, same with a 3. If I look at someone 2.5ing an album, or even 3'ing it on sput, I stay the FUCK AWAY. By being stricter I feel I'm showing the value of albums in the positive range(3+) lot more.
It's really just your personal system though, I'm only saying this cause you brought it up lol.

music is 90% production
what
|
| |
personally, and I KNOW this will sound crazy, but I listen to music for, ya know, the music.........
|
| |
so all lo-fi music just garb to you?
|
| |
"personally, and I KNOW this will sound crazy, but I listen to music for, ya know, the music........."
music is 90% production
Okay but do you not realize that production isn't "the music"??? I mean sure it can contribute to the sound, atmosphere, the bells and whistles. But it's really the icing on the cake. I can understand some albums having good enough production to get a rating bump, hell even a good rating if the production is good enough. But it's fucking The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, not Mezzanine. "the music" is not the production by itself.

Snake that edit really hurt my feelings ; (
|
| |
depends, if you are being lo-fi for the sake of being lo-fi, probably.
|
| |
yeah but the building ambience on this album (aka the production) is why I like it man, in fact I'm sure that's why a whole lot of people like this. the prodction on this is way way way more evident than any of their other albums
and what I should say about "90% production" is I mean to me 90% of the enjoyment I get from music is the sounds and notes that are entering my eardrums, not the words. If I cared more about words I'd just read a damn book
|
| |
fair enough man. if that's why you like it, cool, good for you. I think a lot of people really connect with the lyrics and themes here, and the angsty emotional outlet of the vocals and guitars just help to express those emotions felt. But I can understand enjoying this for the production.
|
| |
yeah a lot of people do like this for the themes and lyrics for sure, but to me that's not why this album is amazing, I like the actual songs.

Album Rating: 5.0
I never pay much attention to production values, unless it's really bad, or really good. I enjoy this album for it's emotional delivery. I also enjoy this album because it's the kind of music that clicks with me, and gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. The production on it is great, but it's not something I'd note as being a reason I 5'd it

"yeah a lot of people do like this for the themes and lyrics for sure, but to me that's not why this album is amazing, I like the actual songs."
...
okay but again the production is not "the actual songs" haha. Anyways this is going in circles so w/e
