The solo section in Capiliarian is extremely Mars Volta and/or King Crimson

New one was surprisingly great. I enjoyed it a lot. It is a tad bloated but the good parts are amazing

im the opposite of y'all, OMRTS was better than Emperor of Sand to me. Emperor of Sand is quite possibly the most soulless album of theirs

Once More had a great opener in Tread Lightly, but then it uh...then it Motherloaded.

Lol for real Sevengill [2]
Emperor is a dumb theme park album and probably devastated anyone who was holding out hope that this band still had access to whatever inspired portal of crystal meth fantasy fuck made this so good - but boi, it wasn't bad for cheap thrills

I wish they did more albums like Leviathan though. There are not a lot of albums like it

"crystal meth fantasy fuck"
hands-down the greatest description of blood mountain
I will admit, though, Steambreather is a banger

So, I saw these boys again last night for the first time since 2010, mega-monsters tour. Oddly, a sizeable portion of the crowd left after gojira laid waste to the place.
Fuck man. The setlist was incredible. Just scorchers front to back. Opened with Wolf is Loose and Crystal Skull, came back around to Cysquatch with a fun surprise near the end. Just divinations from CTS surprisingly. Played Megalodon, I am Ahab and Blood and Thunder, but there was a medley of early shit with like March of the Fire Ants and some others I'm blanking on right now that fuckin' blew me away. Nothing from the Hunter, which apparently only I love, though.
So much pre-brann vocal stuff, back when they were still heavy AF. That psychedelia fucking wizards tripping balls vibe is something you just don't seem to get from anybody else in metal, at least not as hard as Mastodon. Trent has come a long fucking way with his vocals and stage presence too.
All in all, fuck yeah / 10 and would be stoked if they came back ASAP.
