it is a pure latin-oriented etymology and numbers game relative to the appropriate members, what could be more logical johnny?
the fact is that as far as death metal goes you have onlookers who would normally not bat an eye to the genre in the slightest wanting in on the action aka ulcerate (within the context of metallia obv no metal band save metallica etc can be said to be as pop as actual pop music) is mainstream

we’ve moved past this band now please place your comments in another thread thanks.

also odd how such a plain backhanded comment triggers so many it is not necessarily bad that you love pop metal i love plenty of pop metal bands too but it is funny watching the triggering

there is pop metal in the strict numbers sense, and yes there is in fact pop metal in the front lead woman backed by lightest but still technically metal riffs sense like whats not to understand

yea im not saying its not metal but everyone mad when u point out their greatest gem is also everyone elses

idk how out of touch you need to be to think that this band is one of the most popular in the genre, sure rym numbers may favour ulcerate but that's not casting a very wide net.
fb likes is a better metric imo and CC are at 2 milly compared to this bands measly 65K in comparison. Death is almost a mill, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Suffo all around 750K. I think multiple bands with tenfold the number should put ulcerate out of contention for any truly logical thikner such as yourself sm0k

its a nice attempt at a gotcha i admit but u have to the consider the fact that those bands were hella popular well before fb came out and that fb is hardly the place anyone goes to check new music

jfc why is it that that every braincell trying to play armchair linguist clutches at etymology ten times out of ten whenever they're showing themselves up for understanding jackshit about terminology
'popular' is an adjective meaning widely liked. it is not a term and can be used in any context
'pop [music]' is a term, defined intrinsically as music produced for mass consumption, or extrinsically as music that sounds similar to other music that is labelled pop music. it is limited to that context of use (that is what a term is) and does not simply refer to everything that is popular, despite (thank u next) sharing the same root
'pop metal' is also a term used, shock horror, to refer to metal that draws from pop, whether or not it is commercially successful or actually popular (e.g. stuff like I Disagree/Take Me Back to Eden/Babymetal)
per hawks' comment, this is obviously different to 'popular metal' and an obvious reason why the term is rarely if ever applied to acts like death or metallica or even linkin park (where tbh there's some room for argument)
tl;dr don't smartarse about language if you're either ignorant of the fundaments of how it operates or actively intent on taking words outside the context of their use because hurrhurr, shut the fuck up and see yourself out

spotify monthly listeners are all almost 3x ulcerates at minimum and that's including the recent album buff
how many goalposts must be shifted before you admit you can be incorrect sometimes?

Okay so if I'm understanding how this works Ulcerate are a pop metal band because of their broad appeal and large fanbase relative to trve metal bands? Ulcerate, who have just release the pop metal album of the year, have 38,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Compared to more mainstream metal bands like Decide (193,000 monthly listeners), Bathory (212,000 monthly listeners) and Venom (190,000 monthly listeners), I think the numbers clearly spell that Ulcerate are bastions of the trve underground pulse within pop metal.

>spotify monthly listeners are all almost 3x ulcerates
well established bands are always going to have multiplicatively higher numbers for streaming. in any case im not saying ulcerate is "most popular oat" but simply amongst them ie just below the most established bands if not right on par
ie they are a trend right now, but with time may became just as big as the juggernauts
