the argument of this being a classic for cultural impact is pretty moot at this point for anyone with so much as a toe out the door of music discourse in crusty af online nerd spaces yh

alright people, youre allowed to enjoy the album as much as you like and comment on the impact but lets not go comparing this to nevermind. the societal and musical influence nevermind had isnt remotely comparable to this. sure they play this at gyms and clubs and it is very popular amongst the lgbtq community, that is no way comparable to neverminds worldwide influence on not just culture, but nearly every rock or rock adjacent musician from that point forward. not even going to get into the comparisons on novelty and quality

Smashing Pumpkins were more influential.

thats fine but nevermind is one of the most influential and certified classic albums of all time even if it is divisive amongst listeners. this will almost certainly be forgotten in 5 years aside from true fans of the genre

I doubt it. Brat 2 will come out for Kamalas reelection campaign. Brat will help elect a president twice and is a classic for all peoples not just moody boomer guitar go brrt people

i didn't realise that for something to be classic it has to be exactly as or more popular or influential than nevermind

just finding out now there's a whole lot of classics that aren't actually classics

In terms of lasting cultural impact, yeah, that remains to be seen. Immediate impact though? This album's everywhere, you can't escape it if you tried

hey i didnt bring up the debate sin, storm did as a joke and for some reason people latched onto it so had to put it down

"Immediate impact though? This album's everywhere, you can't escape it if you tried" big deal, thats the expectation of any commercially successful pop album

oh i just assumed it was a joke because of how absurd it is. i mean, you can like brat more than nevermind, but there really isnt much in need of debate on the other categories i mentioned
