yeah that drum solo's sick i just wish the hook wasn't so dragonforce cheeseball. major key hooks are an uphill battle for me in this style, they have to be done right.

What do ravioli, burgers, pizza, and metal music have in common?
They all benefit from a little extra cheese

the ice cream truck arpeggios in the beast chorus are really fun to play

tbh if i want cheesy major key choruses the pop punk train is right there lol I'm Not Okay is a way better major key hook for my money, and Blink-182 and Sum 41 have their fair share of those too

Also, it's not like power metal is the only genre that influenced this; hell, I wouldn't even say it's the dominant influence. So I don't understand the fixation on that tbh

It's just how insanely Dragonforce-y that hook feels to me. I feel like it wouldn't be out of place as an alternate hook melody on something like Through the Fire and Flames.

aight time to spend 5,000 hours perusing classic power, speed, and neoclassical metal (genres i know i have to be in a specific mood to enjoy to begin with) to better "understand" how I dislike the cheesiness of one hook on a 72 minute long album because it's a jarring tonal switch in a way I don't like.

Tbh, the power metal influences here remind me a lot more of Children of Bodom
